Background

Annabeth struggles with the betrayal of Luke and still believes he can be good again. Maybe it had something with her past and because of her strong feelings for him. She and Luke and a girl named Thalia had traveled together to the safety of Camp Half-Blood. She'd run away from home because of her stepmother. Her father paid no attention and she wasn't wanted. She mentions to Percy Jackson she has been at Camp Half-Blood more than most. She has a strong connection with Chiron who is a centaur and of great help in times. While living in Camp Half-Blood, she never had the chance to leave. Many new comers came and she wanted them to be the 'one'. And, being a daughter of Athena, she is afraid of spiders and does not like Percy very well at first.

In the books

The Lightning Thief

She is introduced in the first book when Percy faints after the fight with the Minotaur. Her first words are, 'He's the one. He must be.'. When Percy wakes, Annabeth shows him Cabin 11 and he meets Luke Castellan. Annabeth blushes, making it clear she has a crush on Luke. Then, after watching him splash toilet water on Clarisse la Rue and her friends, she puts him on her capture the flag team. In the game, she comes back for Percy, who she left, but is surprised when he deals with Clarisse himself.

When Zeus's lightning bolt is stolen, she, Percy, and Grover Underwood have until the summer solstice to bring it back. The three travel and come across many adventures including Ares, Hades, and what Annabeth fears the most, spiders. Annabeth let's Percy know that she is a daughter of Athena and their parents do not get along. She's not awake for this part, but Grover tells about Thalia Grace and how she turned into the tree that guards Camp Half-Blood now when she was dying. They realize that it was Ares who stole the lightning bolt, but are able to take the lightning bolt into their possession. Annabeth is able to cooperate with Percy and they bring the lightning bolt back to Zeus. After the journey, she's even more certain, that Percy is the prophesied one. At the end, it is reveled that Luke has turned and is an enemy. Annabeth is devastated.

The Sea of Monsters

The tree that protects Camp Half-Blood has been poisoned and Annabeth runs from her father's house to find Percy. It is mentioned by Percy that she was the shadow outside his window. They return to Camp Half-Blood to find it under attack. Percy goes to fight, but his friend, Tyson(Percy Jackson) is unable to assist until Annabeth lets him in. They realize then that the tree, Thalia, has been poisoned. Chiron is accused of this and is forced to leave camp. Annabeth and Percy are not voted to voyage the journey for the golden fleece, but Clarisse. Annabeth and Percy are able to escape and start the next journey. They are attacked and travel with Clarisse. They know they must enter the Sea of Monster. Surviving the Sea of Monsters mean that they have to survive Scylla and Charybdis. Percy and Annabeth would agree, try to sail in between, but Clarisse does not listen and tells her men to head for Charybdis. When they take a blow, Tyson appears to have died within the ship as it sank. Annabeth tells Percy why she hates cyclops so much. She tells how it was the cyclops who had made Thalia died. If they hadn't met it, she wouldn't have stood on the hill and fought every monster coming at her. She tells him about the prophecy and tells him she believes he's the one. They come to and defeat Circe and then come to the Sirens. Annabeth tells Percy to tie her up so she could listen to the music, but not be able to swim over. The plan works until Annabeth can't take it any longer and cuts the rope with her knife. She starts to swim ashore and Percy rescues her. She tells him her fatal flaw, pride.

They finally reach the cyclops layer to find Clarisse and Grover. She decides to distract the cyclops while Percy rescues Grover and Clarisse. Her plan goes well as she has her invisibility cap on, but is caught by the cyclops. Percy yells up and Annabeth is dropped, only to be knocked uncontentious by the rocks that she landed on. When she wakes up, the fight appears to be over. The golden fleece is on her, but she is not fulling healed. She has cracked ribs and Clarisse carries her. It is found out that the cyclops, Polyphemus comes with rocks and sinks the ship. They are saved by hippocampis' and return to the mortal world, all alive and almost all well.

Annabeth watches in amazement as Percy sends Clarisse with the golden fleece back to where it is needed, at the camp. As they turn around, they face Luke. They met him once before, but escaped by free-falling into the ocean. Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Tyson are taken aboard the ship run by Luke. He demands the golden fleece, but Percy tells that he's too late. Annabeth watches the two duel when the 'party ponies' arrive and take over. They return to the camp and later have the race they never finished. Then, at night, Annabeth is leaning over a girl when Percy comes up. She can't believe her eyes. Percy yells for help, but she only can stare. For, she knows who the girl is and fears for the future. Thalia has come back to life and Kronos has another pawn to play for the prophecy to come.

The Titan's Curse

Annabeth, Thalia, and Percy are on a mission to take two demigods back to camp before anything happens. They are two kids, Bianca Di Angelo and Nico Di Angelo. Percy vanishes when Annabeth looks for Thalia and Grover as they discover the two are gone. When she finds them, they rush into the battle. She crashes into Percy and the Di Angelo kids with her invisible cap on. Then, the Hunters of Artemis arrive and take over. Annabeth leaps onto Dr. Thorn and they plunge over edge. She is later seen in Percy's dream as Luke tricks her into taking the weight of the world on her shoulders.

She is finally able to relieve the pain as Artemis takes over, but even the goddess Artemis struggles with the world on her shoulders, so Percy takes the weight of the world on his shoulders. They are rescued by half-bloods and hunters.Atlas is tricked to take the weight of the world on his shoulders again. Annabeth yells when Luke is pushed over the cliff by Thalia, who hadn't meant too, but instinctively did so. Zoƫ dies and Artemis puts her in the constellations in the stars above.

The Battle of the Labyrinth

Annabeth is going to have a date with Percy, but instead, runs into him as she goes to meet him. She looks to see the school he was looking into going flaming. Annabeth, not so pleased with Percy at the moment, takes him to Camp Half-Blood and leaves. She says she has business with Clarisse. They talk about the labyrinth and Annabeth tells him about the missing Hermes camper that was found by Clarisse and how Grover was in trouble. He had be trying to find Pan and had so far not succeeded. When Annabeth and Percy and the rest of the camp play a game, they find an entrance for the labyrinth right in their walls, which concerns her because this way, Luke and his monsters could easily charge in without passing the boarder lines.

Annabeth, Percy, and Grover start another journey, but this time, Annabeth takes the lead. She goes to the Oracle for her prophecy and comes down to tell them all, but the last few. She tells them it's not important and the important part was she had to go. When they're ready, they start, but soon, it becomes clear, Annabeth is having a hard time. They meet Nico again and they meet a monster with three hearts who Percy is able to kill. They return and Annabeth reluctantly allows them to find Rachel. Rachel Dare, though a mortal, is able to help, but they soon get captured.

Luke makes Percy duel and Percy doesn't kill one boy, Ethan. They are able to escape with Ethan and he leaves shortly after. They continue and are able to find the long lost Pan. Pan tells them of the world of nature and how it's vanishing. He is no longer needed. He says he waited for Grover to come and tells Annabeth and Percy something in turn. When he gets to Rachel, he acknowledges her too. They leave and return to the camp, where everyone is getting ready for the fight. When the fight comes through, they stand firmly and are able to take the monsters. The labyrinth is sealed forever by a death and Annabeth and Percy say goodbye for now. She turns and heads up the hill before Percy is able to say something to her.

The Last Olympian

She's not in the beginning a while lot, but more in the middle and end. She helps with the battle. Thalia returns and helps with her hunters. Annabeth and Percy attack the monsters and are swarmed by them. Percy has visited the River Styx and Ethan aims for his weak spot, but Annabeth steps in, only to be severely hurt by the wound. She is carried away and Percy rushes in after to see how she's doing. She smiles weakly.

Kronos has not yet made his final entrance, but the gods and goddesses are trying to stop Typhon, he is ready to attack. With only campers and some hunters and stayers, he'd say it's hardly an army. However, his spy is discovered and it turns out to be Charlie Beckendorf's girlfriend, Silena Beauregard. Soon, Kronos comes and Annabeth, Percy, Thalia, and Grover follow him when he heads up to Olympus. Thalia is struck under a statue that was most likely meant for Annabeth, as for Hera now hates her guts. They continue without her, saying that she was fine. They see Kronos destroying the thrones and Percy and Annabeth leap into battle. Annabeth realizes what Luke is supposed to do and tries to talk, but Kronos swats her like a fly and when he's about to kill, Luke's voice takes place. She convinced Percy to give his sword to Luke. Luke pierces his only weak spot and destroys Kronos for the time. Even after, they learn that Rachel has taken Blackjack. They are in time to know that she is the knew oracle and Rachel tells of the new prophecy of seven. After, Annabeth and Percy are able to kiss for real and are dumped into the water where Percy makes a bubble and they continue to kiss.

The Lost Hero

Annabeth is not the main character in this book, although it is plotted that she will most likely be one of the seven prophesied and will have a much larger role in the third book The Mark of Athena. She comes in at the beginning, looking for her lost boyfriend, Percy. She is devastated when she returns to Camp Half-Blood without Percy. She does not travel with the new campers, Jason Grace, Piper McLean, and Leo Valdez. When they return from their journey, she realizes as well as Jason that he and Percy switched places and that Percy was now in the Roman camp for demigods and that his mind had also been cleaned for the most part, which was all except her name and some fuzz.

The Son of Neptune

Annabeth is not in this book entirely except in Percy's dreams telling him to stay put and mentioned many times. She is what brings Percy back to his memories with some help. She is not physically in the book, but it is clear she will be a main character in the third book in the series, The Mark of Athena. She was also mentioned that she will bring trouble to Percy and though it is heavily implied, it is currently unknown whether Annabeth is the seventh demigod in the prophecy or not. She sets out to find him and at the end of the book, though she does not come in physically, Percy and she are about to be reunited as soon as she steps out onto the land.

The Mark of Athena

The Mark of Athena is the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series. It has not been released, though it has been noted it to be released in the coming fall of 2012.

Film portrayals

Alexandra Daddario portrayed as Annabeth Chase in The Lightning Thief (2011). It is a film adaptation of the first book of the first series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, released in February 12, 2010. However, in the film, Annabeth, Percy, and Grover were older than in the first book.

Physical description

It is to say that she has blond hair with stormy gray eyes. She is taller than Percy in the first book, but he starts to grow to her height. She is already athletic and usually wears the orange shirt that says 'Camp Half-Blood'. She has her knife on her and usually her cap of invisibility. In a way, she is much like her mother, as her mother has blond hair with gray eyes.

Personality and fatal flaw

When Percy first meets her, she's a little upright, not sure about him even though she thinks he's the 'one'. She becomes more soft towards Percy, but in no way for enemies. She becomes hard for her enemies, but as the books go on, she starts to become less angry at Percy, although she does get upset at points. She is reliable on and is an extremely hard worker. Because she's the daughter of Athena, she's wise and she's smarter than most. She tries hard to succeed and has a hard time backing down, but it's just one of her personally traits, being a hard worker, but it is also a flaw. Because, it is that and her pride and hubris that gets in the way of something that might be able to progress. She said to Percy in the second book that her fatal flaw is indeed hubris.

Romance

At the beginning of the first series of books, Annabeth had a crush on Luke. As the series progressed, she had to come to terms with his betrayal, as well as her developing feelings for Percy. In Battle of the Labyrinth, when she believes he is going to die, she kisses Percy, and is visibly moved when he survives. In The Last Olympian, she resolves her feelings for Luke, telling him that she always considered him more of a brother, and never loved him. She begins a relationship with Percy, much to the delight of the entire camp. In The Lost Hero when Percy is missing, she seems desperate to find him, even turning down a quest in order to search for him. Percy has indicated (to the readers, not to Annabeth) that he is interested in spending the rest of his life with her.

Powers & Abilities

Though she has no great power, she makes use of her invisibility cap her mother made for her and the knife Luke had given to her when she was seven. She uses them greatly and they help her in times. Because of Athena, she is smarter than most and was likely to have the best strategy for the team. She used her wits and brains to figure things out and that's not power, but that is something that only daughters and sons of Athena could do best.

Possessions

Like before, her invisibility cap always comes in handy, whether it's capture the flag or a dangerous mission. She never leaves her knife while going out on an adventure. She makes sure she has those two items before leaving. They are dear to her as the cap was a present from her mother, Athena. The knife, a present from Luke when she was seven.
